RI & Australia Fight Smuggling

JAKARTA - Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd held the first ever visit to Indonesia in 2012 and met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Marty Natalegawa. Through the trip, Australia and Indonesia agreed to continue to combat crime of human smuggling.

"The bottom line thanks to the insistence of Indonesia to discuss people smuggling issues with Australia, for now, the handling of non-citizen adults are caught in Australia have started to increase and more systematic," Marty said in the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, on Monday (9 / 1 / 2012).

Marty also presented, currently 19 citizens who were captured had returned to their homeland. Meanwhile, 16 others moved, and three people are still being investigated.
Rudd also affirmed the importance of cooperation in order to avoid a repeat of this crime.

"It takes cooperation between Indonesia and Australia to make people smugglers were experiencing difficulties in their activities. The cooperation should also cover the scope of the security forces. This problem is a fairly complex problem, there is no country in the world who underestimate the issue of human smuggling," Mr Rudd said.

Not to forget, Marty Natalegawa also highlighted the case of entry into Indonesia Iranian citizen who was then heading to Australia. Through the case, Marty was increasingly stressed the need for cooperation between Indonesia and Australia over the need to tackle the issue of immigrants.
