RI & Australia Strengthens Disaster Emergency Response

JAKARTA - Australian Government aid program (AusAID) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) today announced plans to build a training center for disaster management and logistics of the first regional Indonesia.

Disaster management training center and regional logistics Indonesia will be built in Padang, West Sumatra in December.

This center was established to respond to high risk of earthquake and tsunami in this region, this facility will train managers in the region's disaster response and provide emergency supplies that enable quick reaction times of disaster.

"Indonesia is one country in the world most vulnerable to disasters and has many remote areas. The more highly trained disaster managers and disaster response capabilities more quickly will save lives, "said Dr. Matt Hayne, Deputy Director of the Australia-Indonesia Facility for Disaster Reduction (AIFDR).

"To improve the skills, managers need training directly. Facility valued at 3.75 million Australian dollars will be established in Padang and will be equipped with a sophisticated training facilities, storage facilities, emergency and emergency operations center," said Dr. Hayne in a press statement Embassy Australia to Okezone, Friday (10/14/2011).

This news was announced during the handover ceremony of storage space and logistics centers are funded by Australia, which was attended by the Head of BNPB Syamsul Maarif and West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno.

AIFDR to agree a partnership valued at USD67 million over five years between AusAID and BNPB, also helped fund the construction of training facilities and storage handed over today in the city of Padang.

This facility is a model of "best practices" and here this month logistics training and simulation has been held to the staff of West Sumatra Provincial Government logistics and disaster management agencies dijajaran district.
