Support Election Indonesia, Australia Prepare Aid

JAKARTA - Australia increase its commitment to improving the quality of the electoral process (elections) in Indonesia, by providing aid package to be announced today at the Bali Democracy Forum.

Australia stands ready to give a five-year aid package that will support the democratic electoral process in Indonesia. This is done in order to enhance the participation of the people of Indonesia in elections.

Aid package that would include funding for an ongoing partnership between the Australian Electoral Commission and Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia. There are also grants aimed at civil society groups.

The aid will help all local organizations and encourage the people of Indonesia in the electoral process such as monitoring and education in the use of voting rights.

Aid package that will also improve the management of elections by supporting the Commission to develop a manual elections that are easily digested and encourage people to register themselves for the elections of 2014.

"Australia has long been working with Indonesia to improve public confidence in democratic electoral processes. A well-run election will be very useful to strengthen democracy. Australia's support will help ensure that all Indonesian people the opportunity to vote in the country's third largest democracy in the world," said Australian representatives in Bali, Ambassador Tim Fischer, as quoted by Press Release Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Thursday (12/08/2011).
